It might not look like it from these pictures, but in 2002, the snow came very late in Leavenworth. So Dave and I were doing a lot of hikes, waiting for the opportunities to go cross-country skiing. We were able to drive to the Alpine Lookout trail head and hike almost to the lookout. We didn't quite get to it because we ran out of time and it was slower going with the snow.
I know it looks like I pasted myself into this picture but, I didn't. It's kind of weird how it looks like I am leaning like the trees. Maybe Dave was leaning when he took the picture. It makes me look a little angelic with the halo and the top of a tree that looks like a cross. Maybe I should apply for Sainthood, Cindy!
Sun rays through the trees.
We managed to climb up out of the clouds and the Chiwacum mountains looked like islands in a sea of clouds. Spectacular and so very eerie!
These trees created the perfect portal view of the Chiwacum mountains floating in the clouds.
You can just see the lookout tower on top of this peak.
I had just enough time to snap this picture of the Chiwacum mountains just before sunset. We had to race back to the car before it got too dark. We managed to get back with just enough light to see the truck.
