Dave and I hiked up Estes Butte because we hadn't hiked it before. It's up the Chiwawa about 7 or 8 miles before you get to Trinity. It was kind of a boring hike and buggy. Definitely nothing to write home about. However, when I was hiking up the trail I saw an LBB (little brown bird) that flew out from a bank right along the trail. I didn't think too much about it except that it seemed low on the ground. When it flew out and I had wondered what it was doing right there next to the trail. It was really close to me when it flew out. On my way back down the trail, I saw the same LBB fly out from the same location. "Hmm," I thought. "What is so interesting about that spot that the bird would be there both times I passed it." Of course, I had to investigate further and found, to my delight a little bird nest with two newly hatched babies silently begging for food with their little mouths wide open. Oh, my gosh, they were so cute!
There used to be a lookout at the top of Estes Butte. So we took pictures of the view from that location.

The nest is hidden behind the green branch above Dave's foot.
