LA Wilder Ski Trips - Tronson Meadows January 8, 2008

Dave and I had another fun day skiing up the main Tronson Meadows road along Blewett Pass. It was cloudy and snowed on and off, but not too cold. We decided to head up to the Tronson Meadow trail head and ski the cutoff trail to the lower road downhill from Tronson Meadows. We noticed on the map that there was a road up from there that we hadn't tried, so we wanted to see where it went. There was just barely enough snow to get across the creeks and over the fallen trees, but it wasn't too much trouble. It's kind of fun along that trail. Never too steep, but narrow with a few minor challenges that make it more interesting.

The new road we wanted to try dead ends after about a mile and we continued on for a little bit, first climbing up a steep section, using side-steps and then traversing the hillside until we decided it wasn't worth it anymore. We got some pretty views though. We probably won't go up that road again because it didn't go as high as we had hoped. It was pretty flat until we got to the end of the road too.

LA at Trailhead
Here I am at the trailhead. I was practicing using my new tripod and just barely got into position before the picture snapped.

This is a section of the cutoff trail that leads across to the lower road. I thought this was a good example of how the trail narrows.

Dave side-stepping up from a creek we were just barely able to cross without getting our skis wet. We decide to side-step down because we were worried our skis would dig into the stream and once they get wet, you can't stop them from sticking in the snow.

This is the section where we traversed the slope after we climbed the hill, side-stepping, when we left the road.

Dave skiing over logs across a creek.
Here's Dave skiing over logs across a creek. This is the trickiest section of the trail because there is more than one log crossing the creek, and there is space between the two logs. So, if you screw up, you end up like me in the next picture. :-)

LA praying to the snow gods.
Here I am praying to the snow gods! Of course, Dave does what spouses are supposed to do. Stand there laughing and take pictures of me looking stupid. :-) Actually, my ski tips fell through between the logs and my pole went through the space, taking me with it and then it hooked onto something so I couldn't pull it out. I was laughing so hard, I just sat there with my face buried in the snow. I finally had to let go of the pole and lift myself up. Then work the darn thing free.

LA at the turn-around point.
Here I am at the trun-around point. Some great views from here. Too bad it was so cloudy.
